Cathedral Lay Clerk to Sing with Welsh National Opera
Anwen Hughes, one of the Cathedral Lay Clerks, has been singing most of her life, competing at the Urdd Eisteddfod and then became a member of the Cathedral Girls Choir when it was formed in 2003. During her time as a chorister, Anwen had various opportunities to take part in live and recorded broadcasts. She also performed with the Kings Singers at the North Wales International Music Festival. She also appeared as a soloist for Karl Jenkins in a performance of his Requiem “A Mass of Peace” in the Llangollen International Eisteddfod.
In 2008 Anwen was the runner-up from 197 competitors in BBC Radio 2 Young Chorister of the Year Competition.
Anwen graduated from the University of Huddersfield with a BMus (Hons) with singing being her main area of Study.
Anwen will be appearing with the WNO as a soloist on Saturday 22nd September as part of this year's NWIMF.
